      At the age of 31, Shiv Nadar reluctantly quit his job, along with his five colleagues, at Delhi Cloth Mills (DCM) and set his foot out to a new endeavour of manufacturing tele-digital calculators under the name of Microcomp. Later the founders managed to collect enough cash and HCL was born.

      Shiv Nadar was conferred with the third highest civilian award in 2008, Padma Bhushan. The UK Trade and Investment India also awarded him The Businessperson Of The Year in 2009. He was honoured at IIT Kharagpur, India by The Honorary Doctorate Degree in Science for his contribution in IT.

      On a creative philanthropic front, he helps filling gaps with Shiv Nadar Foundation. Under this initiative organizations viz. VidyaGyan, Shiv Nadar School, Shiv Nadar University, SSN Institutions, Kiran Nadar Museum of Art and Shiksha operate.

      He is also called the Dark Horse of the technology sector and The Magus of IT sector. Proving these names, right now in 2016, he is all set for the acquisition of Geometric which he considers a valuable asset.

The Rolls Royce Phantom is a bluish-grey colored hot wheel possessed by Shiv Nadar.

He has a hold on HCL Technologies, HCL Enterprises and HCL Infosystems as a major turn over for his business.

      Nadar rides expensive toys. He owns a Rolls Royce Phantom which costs more than $200,000.

      He also rides his old Mercedes 500SEL which is beige coloured. Still old fashioned and vintage lover at heart, Shiv Nadar loves this first possession of his.

      In 2014, Shiv Nadar bought a mansion of whooping 115crore rupees for her daughter, Roshini. This new purchase back then was small bungalow which he later rebuilt into a larger manor within a few months.

      Shiv Nadar’s house is full of authentic art collection which includes M F Hussian’s iconic works like Ganga, Yatra and also Rameshwar Broota’s, Runners. Kiran Nadar, however, has a major role to play while choosing such artifacts for their home.

      Recently, this year, Dell has collaborated with Shiv Nadar University for driving research in a positive direction. The major field of research would be big data, Internet of Things and cloud computing.

      Shiva Nadar was the person who gave India the first brand of personalized computers. He got the chance to enter the Computer market when IBM just had made the exit from India.

      He founded Microcomp which began the era of microprocessors in India. This was the time when India just had 250 computers in totality. Such was his foresight.

      He also served the renowned and distinguished educational institute, IIT Kharagpur, as the Chairman of the Board of Governors in 2011.

Shiv Nadar University was founded in the year 2011. It is a private interdisciplinary research university located in Dadri.
