      In 1997, Viktor Vekselberg attained a stake of 40 percent in Tyumen Oil (TNK), an oil company which was formerly state owned with their interests in different West Siberian oil fields. He had a secured and controlled interest in TNK and was later on appointed in the corporation’s board of directors.
