George Soros is a proclaimed author of 14 books, business mogul, heavy investor, an active philanthropist and a political activist. He is also the Chairman of Soros Fund Management.
George Soros was born in Budapest in 1930, he managed to survive the Nazi occupation during World War II.
Afterwards, he immigrated to England to become a student at London School of Economics and worked as railway porter and waiter to earn money for his education.
After graduating, he worked as a salesman for wholesaler selling to retailers in Welsh seaside resorts.
It was only his entry-level position in Singer & Friedlander that gave a kick-start to his financial career.
He later moved to F. M. Mayer, followed by Wertheim and Co. and then, Arnhold and S. Bleichroeder and eventually culminating Soros Fund Management.
George Soros mounted to a legendary status in the hedge fund industry when he reportedly made over $1 Billion betting against the pound. He is known as “The Man Who Broke the Bank of England”.
In July 2014, he was listed as the 27th richest person in the world and the world’s richest hedge-fund manager.
Recently, during the referendum of British Exit vote from EU on June 23, 2016, (termed as ‘BREXIT’) George Soros was long on the pound on the ‘Black Friday’ and made a trading windfall with other positions.
From having worked as a waiter and porter to being one of the most renowned financial expert, he has come a long way.
